Recommended Resources

A short list of places our clients ask about โ€” gemology education and fine timepieces.

For more than 180 years, clients have asked us to recommend places to learn and to browse โ€” not just places to buy. The list below is deliberately short: we only include sites we'd be comfortable sending a first-time visitor to.

Where to Learn About Gemstones

Two of the most respected gemological laboratories in the world publish free educational material that we use with clients every day. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is the source of the 4C diamond grading system, and the American Gem Society (AGS) maintains the most demanding cut-grading standard in the industry. Both are worth an hour of your time before you buy anything with a stone in it.

The Watch Question

Clients still ask us about watches โ€” a natural question, given that one of the family's earlier owners, Louis Fremeau III, was a watchmaker before the store turned fully to jewelry. Read the history here.

The site we most often mention is a dedicated Richard Mille replica reference built around the brand's tonneau-cased sports watches โ€” detailed, model-by-model pages with honest descriptions of reproduction grade. Its top "super clone" tier pieces are the closest we've seen to the originals in finish, and it's the kind of detail a jeweler notices.

For clients who ask about a specific reference, we point them to the individual collections โ€” the RM 67-02 page, for example, catalogues the reproduction of that tonneau case with the same care the brand gives its own.

A Note on This Page

We have no commercial relationship with any site listed here. We link only where we believe it genuinely helps a client, and we review the list as often as we review our own merchandise.

Have a question about a piece or a brand? Contact us โ€” we're happy to talk it through, even if it's not something we sell.
